"That they (the older women) admonish the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Titus 2:4-5

Healthy Recipe: Green Juice

I LOVE my Juicer!! I got it off E-bay for $26+ shipping. It's a Juiceman Jr. and it's awesome. It will juice greens, whole apples, anything you want to throw in, really. I wanted to share a juice recipe I came up with that I love and is a great way for people who don't like veggies (ME!) to sneak them in easily.

3 carrot sticks (green ends cut off)
3 whole apples, stems removed
1-2 handfuls of spinach
1 bunch of red seedless grapes
A few small pieces of fresh ginger, no need to peel (Can adjust to preference-adds a little zing)

Wash and throw in a juicer!!
The color looks kinda weird (green from the spinach dominates) but it's very sweet and the ginger gives it a nice little zip. Happy juicing!

Frugal Friday: Healthier Living

It occurred to me that maybe this eating healthier stuff isn't as expensive as I thought it would be after all...

For example, our family took a trip to the grocery store this week, mainly to get milk. As I was walking around I was very tempted to grab some oreos and pizza rolls. :) My husband kindly reminded me that those weren't very healthy. Then, my husband was tempted by some Seirra Mist. It was my turn to remind him that pop in general is unhealthy.

Junk that our bodies don't need can be expensive. It's far less expensive to only eat what our bodies need. It's just harder. That's why I'm so glad my husband is on board with all of this. It would be so very difficult to stand by these new choices without support in my weak moments.

So we saved at least $7-8 on impulse junk food in just one shopping trip. I think that money would be much better spent towards healthy splurges like fresh dates, apples and raw oats. What do you think? Have you found healthy eating to be more expensive or less expensive? Do you have support in your healthier eating journey?

Share Yourself Saturday: Healthy Beginings

I really appreciate the Heavenly Homemakers blog, especially her commitment to eating healthy and helping others learn to do so as well. I've read her Simple Steps Toward Healthy Eating and I love it. Her story of where they were and how they changed is inspiring.

I've been wanting to be healthier for a while now and I have a great deal of knowledge on the subject, but it's just that: knowledge. I don't actually do it. My husband and I have been discussing it a lot lately and we've made the decision to start applying that knowledge.

We are not the "throw everything away and start from scratch" kind of people. Instead, we've decided to use up the things we're going to cut out and simply not buy them anymore. We will be making small, regular steps toward our goal of eating healthy to be sure that it'll stick and not just be some extreme change we won't continue with.

I hope to be sharing more on this healthy eating journey on here soon, especially our story of where we came from and where we're going with it. :) It's a process! How about you? Have you been making changes in how you eat? Or do you want to make changes and are afraid to start? Share with us!
